Shopify Enters The Shopping Marketplace Space

Shopify Shop App (iTunes app store download)

Shopify’s “Shop” is a mobile app centered around enhanced customer experience and non-invasive brand exposure. It’s a free offering for Shopify stores that no Shopify brand should be turning down at this point (unless disqualified by not using Shop Pay). It’s an ad free experience that creates a product feed from brands that users shop with or follow. While it looks like it’s been around for a while from the customer reviews, it’s actually a rebranded and rebuilt version of Arrive, an app Shopify previously used for tracking packages.

Following Your Favorite Shops in Shopify's Shop App

Chances are that many of your favorite brands are based on Shopify’s CMS. Shopify at this point has a massive amount of brand and user data. If it’s able to intelligently combine this with user shopping trends, it’ll create a recommended products experience far superior to Google Shopping or Amazon for independent brands. The reason being that Shopify’s stores tend to be more niche and focused on brand building, whereas Amazon and Google Shopping are much broader in scope and influenced by advertising budgets and marketers’ targeting decisions.

How else can you prepare for Shopify Shop adoption?

Mobile First

Brands need to be focusing on mobile-first for all user interactions. With this app integrating with the mobile store, your brand’s mobile user experience needs to be streamlined and easy to use now more than ever before.

Product Images

High quality product imagery is a must. Brands need to ensure that the mobile product image is legible and enticing. Brands should try to limit image cropping, make sure they’re using a white background, and the product is well-lit.

Product Data & SEO

Product data will no doubt be a key factor in how Shopify recommends brands and products to users. Brands need to ensure that this information is correct so that they are classified correctly within Shopify’s algorithm.

Customer Service

Active customer service, shipping, and delivery are feeding directly into the ranking system within Shopify’s new algorithm. These trust signals are going to be readily highlighted for customers when browsing the Shop app.
